Please note as we continue to work to migitage exposure to COVID-19, all players and thier parent/guardian will be required to sign a COVID waiver along with answering COVID related questions before each NPVGSA event, including practices and games. The procedure is subject to change based on current guidelines when the Spring Season gets underway.

COVID-19 Safety Plan

This plan is for all activities sponsored and coordinated at NPVGSA home fields listed above and applies to all NPVGSA sanctioned games, workouts, clinics, and practices at other locations as well. The guiding principles in this plan are to follow along with all recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Pennsylvania Department of Health, Montgomery County’s Office of Public Health, Lansdale Borough, Hatfield Township and USSSA guidelines for lowering the risk of the spread of COVID-19. This plan is applicable to all recreational and select teams that are a part of NPVGSA and will also apply to all teams participating in NPVGSA’s Fall Ball program.

Education of participants:

This plan in its entirety, will be posted on the NPVGSA’s website www.npvgsa.org as well as included in registration processes. It will also be periodically shared with all registered participants board members and their families via email. All coaches are required to have a copy of this plan, either in hard copy or electronic during all NPVGSA affiliated events.

All players and their families, coaches, umpires, and Board members will be instructed to stay home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID19. They will also be reminded of the importance of social distancing (6 feet), proper handwashing (20 seconds with soap and water), use of hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol) and use of face masks.

Health Screenings:

Upon arrival at any practice, clinic, workout, or game, the coaches are required to perform a brief health screening of all coaches, players, and umpires, to include asking about:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Unusual fatigue or muscle aches
  • Headaches
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

The coaches will be required to record this information at all league events for all participating individuals. If any of these symptoms are present, the individual must leave the facility immediately. Coaches must also monitor those present and participating in the practice, clinic, workout, or game for the appearance of any of these symptoms.

Participants at any level who may have high risk medical conditions should consult with their primary care physician prior to participating in any NPVGSA activities.

Social Distancing

While not actively involved in the game or practice, all participants should strive to maintain a social distance of 6 feet from all other individuals. To maintain social distancing, the following will be prohibited:

  • Hand to hand contact (high fives, handshakes, fist bumps, etc.)
  • Team huddles of any sort
  • Carpooling with anyone outside of a participants’ immediate family or household

During a game:

  • Only players and coaches are permitted in the dugout
  • Only three players are allowed in the dugout while the team is on offense           
  • Dugouts will be marked to maintain social distancing
  • Only three coaches per team permitted in the dugouts when the team is on defense
  • Areas outside of the normal dugout along with the bleachers will be sectioned off for overflow of players and coaches
  • All coaches are required to wear cloth face masks or coverings when in close proximity to players
  • Players are encouraged to wear cloth face masks while not actively involved in play. Parents or guardians may require their children to wear cloth face masks while playing at their discretion.
  • No spitting, chewing gum or consumption of sunflower seeds or the like will be permitted by players or coaches.
  • Parents and other spectators will be prohibited from directly interacting with those involved with the game. They should maintain social distancing except from those in their immediate family or household.

Equipment

It is possible a person can contract COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes.

  • No equipment (bats, helmets, gloves) is to be shared amongst players
  • No team water sources – everyone must have their own water bottles
  • Balls should be periodically cleaned. No spectators should be retrieving foul balls

Facility

All bleachers roped off and designated for player and coach use. Spectators will be encouraged to bring their own chairs and clean them once leaving the fields.

Teams will be permitted to arrive for their games a maximum of one hour prior to their scheduled game time and can warm up in the designated areas.

When multiple games are scheduled on the same field on a given day, a half hour resting period will be required between the time the departing teams leave the dugouts and the next teams are permitted to occupy the dugouts. This will allow time for cleaning of the frequently touched surfaces.

Once a game is completed, all participants and spectators should gather their belongings and leave the fields without congregating around the fields or in the parking lots.

Only limited concessions will be available, which will be limited to sealed items designed for consumption by a single individual. No shared food items (team snacks) will be permitted.

Bathroom use will be permitted by one person or family/household at a time. A facemask will be required to use the bathroom. Bathrooms will be periodically cleaned and sanitized.

Record Keeping

The head coach of each team is required to maintain a list of all participants of each practice, workout, clinic, and game, noting the date and time of the event. This includes all players, coaches, instructors, and umpires. This information is required to be submitted to the designated COVID-19 point of contact to assist in contact tracing should a participant test positive for COVID-19.

Responding to a positive COVID-19 test

If a participant of a NPVGSA activity tests positive for COVID-19, they will be prohibited from participating in any further NPVGSA activity until 14 days after their positive test and will be asked to self-report to the Designated COVID-19 Point of Contact. All areas the individual has come in contact with will be cleaned and disinfected. In following appropriate contact tracing guidelines as provided by Montgomery Country’s Office of Public Health, those that have had prolonged exposure to an individual who has tested positive will be notified by the league of their potential exposure and instructed to follow current CDC and related guidelines and consult with their primary care physician. The name of the individual(s) who are suspect or confirmed cases of COVID 19 will not be provided to those that are contacted.
